Franse discohouse-dj knipt en plakt discoklassiekers aan elkaar

Eind deze maand brengt BBE Records Dimitri from Paris zijn 364.997^ste discoverzamelaar uit, getiteld ‘Get Down With The Philly Sound’. Toch is het een zeer bijzondere compilatie; een eerbetoon aan de Philadelphia discosound uit de zeventiger en tachtiger jaren van de vorige eeuw.

Ter promotie van zijn nieuwe dubbele mixverzamelaar heeft Dimitri from Paris een promomix samengesteld, waarbij de Fransman tekst en uitlegt geeft over de totstandkoming van de diverse tracks uit de gloriedagen van de Philadelphia discosound. Op cd2 haalt de discohouse-dj/producer de originele tracks van cd1 door de mangel.

Grote naam voor de Philadelphia discosound is Teddy Pendergrass, die in januari op 59-jarige leeftijd overleed aan de gevolgen van darmkanker. Get Down With The Philly Sound is daarom een ode aan de Amerikaanse zanger/producer - ooit voorman van de legendarische formatie Philadelphia All Stars, waarin hij muziek maakte met o.a. Lou Rawls, The O'Jays, Archie Bell en Dee Dee Sharp.
