Hij is dit jaar voor het eerst de MC van Wooferland, tijd om weer eens bij te praten met dé voice of dance!

Tekst: Frank Böhm

Who is MC Marxman?
Professional Master of Ceremonies for 25 years, radio host, event promoter & unofficial leader of the Dutch Arsenal fan club.

You went back to the UK to enjoy your old days, but you came back as a MC! Why?
Holland is a magnet. While in the UK I spent more time in contact Holland than ever before. It became obvious that it was bad timing to move back to the UK so put the gears into reverse & hightailed it out of there.

How do you combine the wild life of a MC with your familytime?
My wildlife days ended years ago and my lovely lady keeps my feet firmly on the ground. It is important to remember that in this business being wild and crazy will not give you a long career.

What about DJ Jean then? :)
Ask Jean that question, why would I speak for Jean?

You’ve been around for a while, was it all better back in the good old days of house/techno/dance music?
There are some things that were better back in the days. The scene was more personal in the sense that everybody involved knew each other. I would not say it was better but I am glad I was there to live it.

What do you think of the global dance scene nowadays?
Very healthy! If you compare the scene now to 20 years ago it is very strong and productive. It is a major industry now employing thousands.

What do you do besides MC-ing?
I am a event consultant & party promoter specializing in sales problems and overall trouble shooting. I also host a 4 hour radio show every Friday at Studio 80 in Amsterdam: Rebel Radio. Plus I am a professional football watcher haha!

Which dance events do you help with consulting?
This year Ultra festival Miami, Fusion of Dance and Wooferland.

Tell us more about Rebel Radio!
Rebel Radio, Studio 80 Amsterdam, Live Broadcast friday's from 17:00 till 21:00 (Dutch Time) 4pm till 8pm (UK Time) Available Worldwide! Rebel Radio plays quality upfront house, techhouse and techno, so no pinky & perky sounds, Bob the Builder music or Fisher Price tunes!

You have worked as a MC with most of the DJ’s and artists playing at Wooferland but who have you worked with the most?
Jeroen from Secret Cinema. Lost count how many times! I have introduced him on stage but every time is a pleasure.

What do you think of Dutch MC's?
They have come a long way since I first came to Holland. You have some talented MC's here. There are one or two who seem to think that the more they talk the better it is. They will either learn or burn.

This year will be your first performance on Wooferland. What do you expect from it?
Yes first performance at Woofeland and long overdue might I say. I am expecting to have a lot of fun. There has been a buzz around this festival all year so I am really looking forward to it. It will be like a school reunion without the teachers watching.

Who are you looking forward to hearing at Wooferland?
All of them but especially CJ Boland & Orlando Voorn. I last worked with Orlando back in the Chemistry days and I have not seen CJ Boland for years. Most people think CJ is from Belgium but he was born in the UK & is a Sunderland football fan. Their Nickname is the "Mackems".

If you were allowed to book a DJ for Wooferland at any price who would it be?
I would have to say DJ RUSH. Not a techno set but a Chicago dirty house set. RUSH played at Rebel Radio this year & smashed the place sideways.

Did you come up with the Idea for the Wooferland Jingle?
No that was Bas from cloud 9. But I am sure I motivated and inspired him.

Can you sum up Wooferland 2011 in one word?
Woofer-licious!

If you could organize a wicked festival with unlimited budget how would it look like?
Easy question. I would bring back the Rotterdam Fast Forward street parade and force the government to pay for the whole thing. It was one of the best things in this country and they took it away. Line up would not matter as long a Michel de Hey gets the last truck. I loved doing that gig so much and I miss it. Bring it Back.
