1. Why should the visitors of Partyscene buy your new album instead of (illegaly) rip it from the internet?

Because it comes with lovely packaging when you buy it complete with a beautiful photo of myself. I understand why people download stuff off the Internet rather than buying it. If that’s what they want to do there’s nothing I can do to stop them. I don’t think it is a situation that will go on forever so it doesn’t really bother me.

2. Tell us in 5 words what the album is all about?

N/a

3. Some people will only know you from ‘american dream’. In what respect are there similarities and differences in the new work?

It all has a cinematic feel but there is a big diversity of moods, tempos and atmosphere on the album.

4. Do you have your own studio at home?

Yes

5. If yes, do you ever come out on the streets or are you a ‘huismus’ (wallflower)?

Yes I like coming out onto the streets. I used to work for the council as a litter collector. I still enjoy collecting litter on a daily basis in local alleyways.

6. Jakatta is one of your monikers. Why don’t you release under your own name Dave Lee?

I use about 8 pseudonyms at the moment. Realistically with the amount of stuff I make I couldn't release all the tracks under the same name, unless it was on an album. Also it allows me to be signed under different names to several different companies without committing myself exclusively to one of them. I also have separate musical identities for each of the pseudonyms - I wouldn't do the same track for Z Factor as for Sunburst Band or Jakatta. I dont think Dave Lee is a particularly exciting sounding name so I would prefer to make up something else.

7. You are known as one of the founders of the UK Garage scene. Are you proud of that?

I don’t really think of myself in those terms but if other people say those sort of things, of course it’s nice

8. When will the visitors of Partyscene have the chance to see you live?

We are in the process of putting together a live band for Jakatta. It is quite complicated
because of all the different vocalists. I expect to see something in the first half of next year.

9. Which artist won’t get you on the phone if he or she asks you for a remix?

I take each track on its own merit. There is no artist that you’re going to absolutely love everything they do. The song and the vocals are the main thing for me. Only if I like these elements will I consider doing a remix of the track

10. We will give away some units of the new Jakatta album. What question do the readers have to answer if they want to win one? Can you make one up for them?

What hugely successful grounding-breaking French album did Beth Hirsch (singer on next jakatta single ‘One Fine Day’) lend her beautiful voice to?

Jakatta's nieuwe album Visions ligt nu in de winkel. Geef antwoord op de vraag (als je dit album ten minste wilt winnen) door naar de rubriek "WINNEN" te gaan
