Danny’s Choice

‘Choice’ is de prestigieuze en invloedrijke serie van het Britse label Azuli en iedere dj wil daar wel een deel van voor zijn rekening nemen. Voor de serie kiezen de dj’s hun grootste klassiekers aller tijden uit, en dat zijn tegelijkertijd de nummers die hen het meeste hebben geïnspireerd. Grootheden als Jeff Mills, Louie Vega, John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia, X-Press 2 en Frankie Knuckles waren in het verleden al verantwoordelijk voor sterke mix cd’s en nu is de volgende dj bekend. Danny Howells zal in de voetsporen treden van eerder genoemde dj’s en het nieuwe deel van de ‘Choice’ serie samen stellen en aan elkaar draaien.

Azuli heeft voor Howells gekozen, vanwege zijn unieke stijl van deejayen en de totaal eigen manier waarop hij zichzelf presenteert. Vooral zijn t-shirts zijn beroemd. Danny is blij dat hij gevraagd is en zegt over ‘Choice’: “The first couple of years as a DJ are the ones I feel most nostalgic about. With this mix I didn’t want to have loads of back to ’88 classics on it, because I didn’t want to manufacture a past that didn’t exist for me. My collection goes back decades and I have music from all styles, but I wanted to include the music that has influenced me most. Disco One is my fantasy 1992-93 mixtape and Disco Two is more like a Back To Mine influenced mix, a bit trippier and druggier.” Het album ligt eind januari in de winkels.
