Advanced Party met Andy Smith van Portishead

Daar zullen o.a. Andy Smith (Portishead), DJ Q (Glasgow Underground), DJ Hyper (Bedrock Breaks) en Angelo D'onorio (live) zorgen voor een cocktail van house, breaks en techno. Tot de 23e belichten we een van deze acts: deze keer Andy Smith van Portishead.

Andy Smith begon met DJ'en als tiener in Bristol, de thuisbasis van Portishead. Andy ontmoette Geoff Barrow (Portishead) toen hij Hip Hop avonden verzorgde in Bristol. "At the time Geoff had a sampler and turntable but few records. I would take crates of records over to his house and we would go through them to find samples - as we still to this day, only in the studio".

"Now with DJ sets I try giving the crowds an idea of Portishead's musical heritage - playing everything from 60's and 70's soundtracks, jazz, funk, original breaks and even the odd rock record if I can fit it in". Het Engelse Muzik Magazine noemt Andy Smith niet voor niets een "DJ Extraordinaire".

Door het succes van Andy's LP "The Document" (FFRR/ London) tourt Andy nu als DJ rond de wereld. Vanaf begin 1999 trad hij op in vrijwel alle Europese steden, Japan, Australië, USA, Canada en 23/02 dus in Amsterdam.
