Moodymann te gast bij Gilles Peterson

Soul- en discoklassiekers, swingende jazz en dikke house met warme vocals; Kenny Dixon Junior was donderdag ‘in da house’ bij Gilles Peterson. Beluister hier de uitzending, waarin we eindelijk eens wat meer te weten komen over het enigma Moodymann uit Detroit.

De normaal zo zwijgzame Moodymann babbelt er in deze uitzending voor de eerste keer vrolijk op los. Zo vertelt hij hoe hij de muziek is ingerold via hiphop en ‘back yard parties’ en hoe zijn oma hem geregeld tegen zijn zin meesleurde naar de kerk, maar dat hij de soulmuziek tijdens de diensten wel helemaal geweldig vond.

Ook praat hij over zijn liefde voor rolschaatsen en voor de stad Detroit. Hij mist de Motorcity altijd ontzettend als hij op reis is en daarom sleept hij vaak veel familie en vrienden mee naar gigs in het buitenland. Natuurlijk had KDJ ook heel wat lekkere muziek meegebracht. Geen mix deze keer, maar gewoon gezellig plaatjes opleggen. Je kunt de uitzending hier de hele week beluisteren.
